Walking In Authority

Each week I share some thoughts with my squad… This weekI decided to share with a broader audience.

I’ve been thinking a lot about authority lately. Not the ‘submit to your authority or you’ll be in trouble’ kind.
I’m talking, the spiritual authority that gives us power to tread on snakes and scorpions and all powers of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

The authority we have over demons and diseases (Luke 9:1).

The authority that allows us to bind things in Earth and Heaven! (Matt 18:18-20)

I think what triggered my thoughts on this was allergy season. All the talk of allergies and how hard it is to breath and how much everyone’s face is leaking… Ew!
I just wonder… if this earth was created for us and we – humanity via Adam and Eve – were handed dominion at the beginning of it’s existence, should we really have to deal with allergy symptoms?
Yes, Adam and Eve gave away their dominion at the tree of knowledge, but Jesus paid a precious price to buy it back!
Part of me wonders if we aren’t cheapening His sacrifice a little when we succumb to symptoms of an earth we have dominion over.
Aren’t we lessening the sacrifice when we don’t exercise our authority in the spiritual realm.
I was reminded of a story a friend in Canada shared. Her son was dealing with allergies for the first time and she decided he didn’t have to put up with that. She rebuked the allergies and had him do the same. He didn’t struggle with allergies anymore.

One more story and then I’ll wrap up….

The other night I’d gotten home from revival at 12:00 or 12:30am (which is probably like seven hours past my bedtime!). Needless to say, I was tired. I walked in my room and there was a freakin’ fly buzzing all over my room. The big, loud kind. I opened my window, hoping it would fly out while I brushed my teeth and did the things. It didn’t.
While I was deciding what to do, I remembered this authority business – specifically the part where man is given authority over all the animals (Gen. 1:26) – and I looked at the obnoxious fly and said, “You have to come under my authority. Fly out the window!”

I kid you not, he’d been flying around my room for at least 10 minutes NOT flying out the window, but two seconds after I exercised my authority, he flew directly out the window!
Maybe, that’s coincidence and maybe I’m crazy for talking to flies, but I’m claiming it!

We have authority, guys! Jesus died to give it back to us. What are the areas in which we need to start exercising it?
I’m not saying everything we want done, we just need to command it to happen. There is purpose in process and journey. We need to be in tune with the Father to know when it’s time to persevere and press in.
But there are also times we need to say, “Enough is enough. I don’t have to put up with that anymore! Enough with the lies. Enough with the distraction. Enough with my own wrong choices. Enough with ________! I choose something different now.”

We are children of THE King! Claim what’s yours!
